William gay fined for purple cleats
Pittsburgh Steelers safety William Gay was fined for wearing purple cleats in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Gay has requested the NFL donate the money from his fine to groups that support the prevention of domestic abuse and the protection of its victims according to ESPN.
When Gay was 8 years old, his stepfather shot his mother, Carolyn Hall, three times, murdering her, then killing himself. The NFL actually donates the money it receives from player fines to charitable organizations including healthcare for retired players and disaster relief, but only if the non-profit organization in question is partnered with the NFL.
